The engraving is inspired by the 1647 moon map by Johannes Hevelius, the astronomer whose Selenographia was one of the first detailed atlases of the moon. Every crater, sea and mountain range is engraved deeply into the silver. The disc is very slightly domed, so light travels across the surface and brings the detail to life, and a brushed satin finish keeps the silver soft and quietly luminous.
